Koryun's

Life of Mashtots

In Classical Armenian,

with a facing English translation by Beyon Miloyan

Preface

This is a bilingual edition of Koryun's Life of Mashtots, a hagiography of St. Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of the Armenian alphabet. The book was written by his youngest disciple, Koryun, who indicates that he started writing it several years after Mashtots's death, at the request of the locum tenens Catholicos, Hovsep. This is the earliest known work of Armenian literature originally composed in Mashtots's script. This online edition presents the Classical Armenian text (morphologically tagged and parsed by Thomas Samuelian), side-by-side with an English translation by Beyon Miloyan.
